Just as a prosthetic limb might return the pleasures of walking to an amputee, so has stage technology allowed Motley Crue to keep going.

Of course, the Crue has always employed a few flashy gizmos (remember the spinning hydraulic drum that cradled Tommy Lee during 1987's "Wild Side" video?), but when the band performed Sunday night at Nissan Pavilion, it was almost more machine than man -- the Sunset Strip's answer to Darth Vader.

Bassist Nikki Sixx heroically marched about the stage but was largely absent from the mix, the low end supported instead by cranking up the drums. Frontman Vince Neil didn't even bother to sing the chorus to show-closing 1989 hit "Dr. Feelgood." Instead, the fist-pumping chant was piped in from some offstage source.

The hard-charging, hard-partying, carbon-laden world of tour bus-living musicians doesn't exactly scream green! Now, Planet Green challenges two icons to join the newest trend in music; 'going green.' BATTLEGROUND EARTH: LUDACRIS vs. TOMMY LEE challenges hip hop superstar Chris "Ludacris" Bridges and rock god Tommy Lee to battle against the toxic forces destroying Mother Earth as they travel across the country on a 10-episode tour. The series premiere is August 3, 2008 at 10 p.m. ET.
Viewers witness the two stars pushed to the limit as they attempt to keep their high-wattage acts on an eco-friendly course. Enlisting the help of their posses, aka "ecorages," Ludacris taps Willie Box, Sesean Bridges, and Tony "4 Ize" Hayes III while Tommy Lee relies on Diggity Dave, Johnny Colt, and Nina Bergman to help him get to the finish line. In case the ecorages don't add enough to the competition, Ludacris and Tommy have plenty of celebrity guests to turn to including Jane Fonda, Sean Combs, Pamela Anderson, Gene Simmons, and anyone else willing to lend a hand. Ludacris and Tommy Lee dive right into the BATTLEGROUND EARTH competition with unexpected and sometimes hilarious results.
In the "Fast Fuel" episode Ludacris and Tommy Lee's bio-diesel tour buses are running on empty in the middle of the Texas Panhandle. They must roll into a fast food restaurant and look for fast food grease to turn into eco-friendly fuel. In another episode the duo shows up in Las Vegas to set the Guinness World Record for taking the "Largest Shower."
Throughout the tour they battle to get the word out about the state of the environment. This Rap n' Roll battle culminates in a green carpet benefit concert at LA's legendary Greek Theater. The concert featuring Luda, Tommy Lee and many of their famous musician friends raised more than $33,000, including a donation from Treeland, benefiting the renewal of Griffith Park, which was devastated by recent wildfires.

I’m highly intrigued by small, off-site spaces that are both eco-friendly and private. Sort of like little green bungalows. In fact, last summer I wrote an article titled “Five Crazy Cool Eco Spaces For The Ultimate Retreat” over on GroovyGreen listing my favorites. Looks like I might now have to add the Lifepod to that group.

The Lifepods are 10-foot-by-12-foot solar integrated building systems that can be used as an office, pool house, shed, or whatever other creative uses you can think of. Tommy Lee and Ludacris both became intimately involved with the units after competing against one another to see who could build one the fastest. That challenge is just one of many green contests that will be shown as part of their new series on Planet Green, Battleground Earth. From the release,

Apparently, they competed in a 10-city tour to save Mother Earth.

Ludacris says he's working on getting solar panels for his home in Georgia, hoping to sell the excess back to the power company. He also bought a Tahoe hybrid just yesterday.

"I've been talking to the solar panel company and I'm gonna try to get off the grid," Lee offers.

And sure, Ludacris might have a hybrid, but "I save the planet big time, because I just don't go anywhere." said the rocker, who's currently on tour with Motley Crue.

"I met Al Gore right before he won the Grammy for 'An Inconvenient Truth'...he really opened my eyes," says Ludacris.

Still, aside from the oneupsmanship, environmental competition seems to have fueled a friendship between the rocker and the rapper.

"I absolutely adore him. Guy's a sweetheart," Lee says of his rival.

Don't know if there are environmental ramifications of tattoos, but when a reporter asked Lee about his body art, he identified an entire zoo, including "several koi, a leopard...a big peacock down my leg."

What he wouldn't do is answer questions about reports that he's once again back with ex Pamela Anderson.

But it occurs to us that if these two could simply make up their minds, one way or another, the savings in wood pulp alone would offset the couple's entire carbon footprint. [Source]

Pamela Anderson has confirmed she's back together with Tommy Lee. Well, it's about time! Even though she was seen hanging all over Criss Angel last weekend for her birthday party in Vegas, which Tommy was absent from…

Pam says this time is for real for the two of them, and they plan to stay together for the kids. She says, "We are great friends, we are a package deal that's for sure. I am spending a lot of time with him this summer...

"We enjoy spending time together...It's just one of those things. He is the father of your kids, and you can't get rid of them. My family, kids and Tommy are my priority, and they are my focus."
